The NAS feature is great for home users streaming video from it and for backup jobs that run overnight. It may not be ideal solution for all situations. When using the S352BMU3N as an NFS mounted file system, some scenarios cause huge loss of storage space when coping (under Windows) files from a compressed drive to the NAS drive. I just lost close to two terabytes of storage space under RAID0 on an NFS mount by copying some 10 GB of data into the drivespace, and that's the second time that happened. This is a design fault, and I've not so far found any utility that can even identify the missing drive space.
Don't buy this thing, unless you can afford to lose your data. The noise that you are hearing is likely due to the size of the fan within the enclosure. As it is a smaller, energy efficient fan, it runs at a high RPM to properly cool the connected hard drives. While a larger fan would generate less noise, the size of the enclosure would also need to be greater to compensate.
